Monday monday monday

Monday, i hate the word! As much as i hate thunderstorms and all restless nights. Huge electrical storm cut off power to my house last night, frightening - yes, dramatic - yes. I went to bed by candle light. A very odd feeling indeed. Romantic though, i felt a little like a character in a Jane Austen book.

But anyway didn't sleep well so today has been looooooong and drawn out. But that will not stop me from posting don't you worry.

Monday round up time.

1. I like Bryce Dallas Howard, not so much for her acting ability but for her amazing ability to change her appearance like a chameleon. A natural red head of course, but she has also had stints as platinum blonde and dark chocolate brown. Jealous.


2. I like this guy, his name is Jake Abel. Any guy that looks this good in a suit gets my attention.


3. Photographer Ben Watts, (four letter word) he is amazing.

The great debate

Some of us were not born to be skinny minnies, my self included. Genetics aside, my love for good food... especially chocolate, pretty much dictates my size. There is definitely a point where people are too skinny, just like there is also the scale of being too over weight. I advocate neither, just a healthy and well balanced life. Size is only a number in the end. But the media, being the media, will always influence what we see as beautiful. Recently Karl Lagerfeld very publicly said:

"No one wants to see curvy women. You've got fat mothers with their bags of chips sitting in front of the television and saying that thin models are ugly."

This caused of course quite an outrage as he is one of the most influential designers in the world and the comment was so absurd. Also he is incredibly hypocritical, because he recently shot this shoot for V magazines size issue. I don't understand him at all

The thing is though curvy girls are making a come back. Crystal Renn is a plus size model that is making waves with her many many editorial spreads that are pushing the boundaries for "plus size" models. I think she is all kinds of fabulous. Check her out below in the 'One size fits all' spread for V magazine this January. Two models, two sizes, who looks better? Crystal is on the right... but you knew that already i'm sure.


It's an amazing comparison, tell me what you think.

Homme is where i belong

Hi ya'll i'm back, i just a short trip to windy-ville and back. I tell you the last couple of days have been fabulous but tiring but that won't stop me from posting. Oh and the Hens night for Kate went off with a bang, a very sophisticated and girly bang of course. But any who i will be posting photos from the tea party soon and will fill you in more then.

Okay so on with the show.

Up first we have Dior Homme S/S editorial.







Dior is absolutely divine, but Dior Homme is just one up from divine, it's reaching mouth wateringly scrumptious. The androgynous tailoring and the cool expressions make it note worthy work. Check it out on The Fashionisto.

Secondly is the new Burberry Prosum 2010 S/S collection ad campaign starring once again Emma Watson.





What do you think? I'm not sure. These are just snippets from the Campaigns, and Watson's brother actually makes an appearance too. I just don't think it's as good as the last campaign. But who am i to give such an opinion. She is gorgeous though, and does get to pose with a bunch of very cute boys. Lucky thing.

And thirdly i just thought i would let you know that i am still madly in love with Patti Smith. Read her, listen to her, absorb her she is ah-maze-ing.


And did i mention she has great style. I wish i could exude her joie-de-vivre.

For the moment

I'm off on a small trip for the next couple of days to host a gathering of fabulous girls in celebration of a friend getting married. Kate from Lovelornunicorn is getting hitched in February and i'm throwing her bachelorette party. I have to say i am extremely excited to do it and when i have photos i will post them.

But until then i thought i would leave you with a few bits and pieces to keep you amused for the next wee while.

1. Marchesa Luisa Casati


This woman was incredible and the inspiration for the high fashion label Marchesa. Casati was an eccentric Italian heiress, as well as a muse and a patroness of the arts in the early 20th century. She was known for keeping rare animals, and letting them roam freely around her home and for wearing live snakes around her neck as jewelry. A complete nut-bar indeed but the more you read about her the more interesting she gets so google her and see what you find.

2. Rosie Dawson-Hewes blog Style for Breakfast

The lovely Rosie was kind enough to include me in her article about local Wellington blogs. Not only is she a talented writer in all mediums, she's a shoe-a-holic (just like me) a fashionista and adores all sorts of inspiring things. So check out her blog, i especially love her Monday lists of things she loves.


3. Names of an era

At the moment, before i launch into life in Auckland, i am working in a rest home entertaining some of the most amazing old people. The thing that makes me smile the most, apart from some amazing vintage dresses they wear is there names. At the moment i am looking after Flora (104 years young!!), Betty, Kit, Beryl, Ivy, Bess, Olive, Maisey, Vera, Lil and Dorothy. Most of them are in their 90's and still going strong, although marbles have been lost.

4. Ultimate combinations

Here is a combination of two of my inspirations at the moment, Marchea Casati (see above) and Tilda Swinton (i blogged about her a couple of posts ago). Yus yus yus. Love it.

Take Flight

So onwards and upwards for 2010 is a fairly common theme i have been hearing around and about. It seems to me that 2009 wasn't a particularly favourite year for a lot of people. So in theme with taking flight i have to show you this amazing spread from Harpers Bazaar US on Amelia Earhart.

I don't know what it is, but i really love this editorial. The strong masculine and utilitarian pieces worn throughout are good indications of where fashion will be heading. For me personally trends that shy away from the "boho hobo" mess is fantastic because i am just not physically built to carry off the frills and lacy ensembles. Give me strong clean lines any day that lend themselves being oversized yet somehow structured. But you guys knew my love for oversized clothes already.


Anyway, tell me your thoughts i would love to hear them.

To resolute or not to resolute...

Welcome to 2010 everyone, by george! it feels, its feels, well exactly the same. But a new year brings new hopes, dreams and of course resolutions. So in the kind ol' tradition of, well, that tradition here are a few of my resolutions for twentyten.

1. Blog more regularly

2. Be brave and make the move to Auckland

3. Start my empire (yes yes very Darth Vader i know)

And of course my favourite annual resolution...

4. Be more organised.

You know there are probably a hundred more that i should list, but i think resolutions should be semi-achievable. Apart from my number four i think i'm on track.

Okay off to the hospice shop to see what bargains are to be had with Parry.
