Calla

Calla is an amazing label i discovered during my usual morning procrastinatory blog surf today. Her clothing is just beautiful, in three words i would describe it as soft, coy and powerful. Check out her Spring/Summer 2010 collection.

She is amazing, and i love that on her website she has included swatches of her pattern designs. The prints are to die for and i hope you like them too. As a textile lover this just is the cherry on the top of a yummy collection.

I love the whole thing actually, it is the epitome of what summer dressing is right now. You start with your basics in nude palettes, build from that with an interesting print and when in doubt black is never wrong. And the hair, wispy, etherial and you have got to love a messy braid.

Calla has worked with numerous big names in the industry. This is what her biography says abouther.

Calla Haynes, 29, born in Toronto, based in Paris, is the designer behind the new label CALLA. She attended Parsons School of Design in both New York and Paris. After an initial internship with Robert Normand, she worked with Olivier Theyskens for nearly five years at Rochas and Nina Ricci. Using the textile design skills she honed with Theyskens, she went on to design prints for clients including Jeremy Laing, Alexander Wang, Thomas Engel Hart and Erin Fetherston.

Calla is inspired by the “coquine” type of woman and her clothes express this coy and sexy sentiment. She believes that fashion design should focus not only on how a woman looks, but also how she feels in the clothes. Her goal is to provide women with a luxury brand that is modern, accessible and visually unique, with her strong print designs as the foundation of each collection.

What an interesting designer huh. Well that is all from me today, i hope you're enjoying the sunshine.

G is for...

Glee of course. I'm officially obsessed! There are so many other things i should be doing right now but oh my goodness i can't stop watching it. My favourite character? Kurt Hummel (real name Chris Colfer) he is all kinds of fabulous. Check out an awesome video of him here.

Okay anyway this is a pretty pointless post but im so tired after the last couple of weeks so when i get my stuff together i do have quite a bit of stuff to post.

Hope you all are good.

Dazed...

and a little confused. Life is never easy right? Just when you think your finally on top of things, WHAM! It all turns to custard. But any way i am off once again tomorrow to Auckland for the funeral of my aunt. So i won't be able to post for a couple of days. Unless i can add to my 'what not to wear' list. So here is something to keep you going.

I quite like this spread for dazed and confused. I wish my wardrobe kicked ass like these clothes do. Oh well it might happen one day. Click the link above for the rest of the images, just beware there is nudity, i just censored it for my blog. I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend.

Globe time

Golden Globe red carpet round up time is upon us. I don't really give a hoot about the actual awards but i do give a hoot about the fashion. So i thought i would have my own little awards for those who i liked, didn't like so much and anything else i can give my opinion on (a trend i feel).

1. The best dress

Maggie Gyllenhaal, in RM by Roland Mouret with Bulgari jewels. i can't actually tell you why i love it, i just do.

2. Most interesting dress

Chloë Sevigny, in Valentino with Stephen Russell jewels and a Roger Vivier clutch. Who can understand Chloe's style? Not a lot of people, but the one thing i absolutely love about her is the bold choices she makes and individual ones as well.

3. The "woah what's going on here, i think you have something on your dress" dress

Drew Barrymore, in Atelier Versace with Lorraine Schwartz jewels and a Roger Vivier clutch. What is that thing growing on your hip Drew? Minus the coral type growth on the hip i think it would be a fabulous dress.

4.The "i did not expect her to wear that" dress

Anna Paquin, in Stella McCartney with Stephen Russell jewels and an Alexander McQueen clutch. Like i said, i really did not expect Paquin to wear something like this at all. Do i like? The jury isn't out yet.

5. The "holy cow you look good for your age" dress

Glenn Close. This woman is 62, and undoubtedly looks amazing in this dress. Holy cow indeed.

6. The "what i would wear" dress

Jeanne Tripplehorn, in Alberta Ferretti. I love this, i would wear it. Enough said.

7. The "what on earth were you thinking" dress

Christina Hendricks, in Christian Siriano with a Christian Louboutin clutch and Loree Rodkin jewels. Words are beyond me with this one. Wrong wrong wrong.

8. The "great dress to much bronzer" dress

Penélope Cruz, in Armani Privé with Chopard jewels. Toooooo much bronzer for this otherwise beauty. What a shame.

And last but not least

9. The "i expected so much more from you" dress

Diane Kruger, in Christian Lacroix Haute Couture with Chanel Fine Jewelry jewels and a Raven Kauffman clutch. I really did expect so much more from her. I am going to be brutal and say i don't like this at all and am disappointed in it. Diane is usually so much more on to it.

Check out the rest of the red carpet photos here, and all the photos are from the same place www.style.com.

Last breath and frustrations.

Well my dearest of readers, what a weekend i have had. Sadly i have to announce the death of my Great Aunty, the woman whom i am named after, the woman who i sat with as she took her last breath.

I am posting very briefly, while i have a moment to myself, a list i compiled on Saturday in a fit of frustration with badly dressed people. I myself have moments of fashion-dont's but they are kept behind closed doors, never would i venture in public showcasing any of these fashion crimes.

The list of dont's:
  1. Don't ever replace jeans with jeggings (leggings that look like jeans). They are not a clothing item.
  2. Never EVER wear sneens (sneakers and jeans), just don't. It's not attractive at all.
  3. This is one that follows on from number two. Never ever ever wear sneakers with your beautifully cut suit on the way to work. I don't care that you can't wear your heels on that walk, swap the sneakers for a flat pair of black shoes like ballet flats. Sneakers are not acceptable attire with pantyhose and suits.
  4. Elasticized jeans are evil. Just chop them up and walk away.
  5. Unless your under the age of 10, highlighter coloured clothing is not appropriate in any circumstance.
  6. Boys this one is for you. Satin boxers are not good for your health, are not 'sexy' and when they are covered in childish cartoon characters they do not make us want you more.
  7. Another one for the boys, jeans should not be worn under your bum, just like above, showing us your Daffy Duck boxers above them does not make us respect you.
  8. Likewise boys your jeans should never be so baggy that your entire body can fit into one leg.
  9. If you don't have ankles, don't wear ankle boots. Simple as that.
  10. Puffa jackets should never be worn with Jandels, it defeats the purpose.
  11. If you're over the age of 40 (and a female) you should never wear; chucks, 3/4 skin tight jeans, blue eye shadow, pig tails or full length skirts.
  12. When you colour your hair just remember, if your highlights look like tiger stripes you have obviously chosen a hair dresser that is still caught up in 1999 fashion.
  13. Never style your hair in a way that makes you look like you did it with a vacuum cleaner.
  14. NEVER over pluck your eyebrows, it's seriously unattractive.
  15. Shoulder pads went out of fashion in the 80s for a reason. Don't wear them if you have broad shoulders already. BAD IDEA.
  16. Kitten heels should be banned, burnt or blown up. The don't do any outfit justice.
  17. Fishnet tights should never be worn with open toe shoes.
  18. If your a size 14+ never wear horizontal stripes.

That's all i have on my list right now, sorry about the rant, but it has been a hard weekend and it does feel good to get that off my chest. I will post better stuff when i can.

Royalty

Right i'm off again to Auckland for the weekend so I'm not sure if i'll get a chance to post anything so i thought i would just leave you with a beautiful little editorial. Buy jewels i say, even if they are fake, sparkles will make you feel like royalty always.
