A short Resort report

Most designers are coming out with their 2010 Resort collections at the moment, and i am so incredibly overwhelmed with amount of clothing i am falling in love with. Check it;

Viktor and Rolf Resort 2010

Oh my, this collection has a little bit of everything i like in a good outfit. A little bit of black, a bit of drop crotch, tailoring yet structure too and in a sophisticated colour palette. I melted when i saw it. 

Moschino Cheap and Chic Resort 2010

I have never really payed a lot of attention to Moschino in the past, but this collection of wonderfully playful pieces has opened my eyes. These are only a few pieces in the collection, the rest of it has hits of a gorgeous fuchsia with more 1960 style swing coats. I particularly like the twiggy-esqueness of the model. Oh and i now am on the hunt for a top hat.

Alexander McQueen Resort 2010

Alexander McQueen is a god. i love the middle yellow dress, it is so delicate and bad ass at the same time. sigh. Check out some more of his collection at the Fashion Spot, style.com doesn't have his full collection up as of yet.

Relaxed structure

Personally i am torn between two fashion identities. The relaxedness of shaggy layering preferably in all black (which is my basic day to day wear) and a more preppy structured classic look. And recently the preppy side has been calling me more and more. And then i came across this fashion shoot in one of my Harpers Bazaar magazines, which made me realise i don't have to separate my two fashion personalities i should just combine them. So bring on the slouchy black pants and the white tailored shirt and tux jacket. 

I also love in this shoot that there isn't an overwhelming amount of black, if any at all really. Neutrals have really come back strong in the last couple of seasons. I am embracing khaki at the moment, but I'm also looking for some cream or light caramel pieces to update my wardrobe.

Hello Burberry

I have to say when it comes to major fashion houses, i havent' really been captured by any recent ad campaigns. But i stumbled a while ago upon the new Burberry campaign featuring Emma Watson and i love it. Watson has become a young fashion icon in the last couple of years, and i think this is because she wears age appropriate and fashion forward clothes. I would love to know who dresses her. Actually i might google it now.... Apparently not, Watson does not have a stylist. Interesting.

Any way i am way of track again. Here a couple of snaps from the Burberry Campaign.

I am a huge fan of the coat, and i have to say after looking at the Burberry Prorsum Fall 2009 RTW i want them all. The top snap of Watson in the burnt chocolate Trench is so stunning, i would wear that in a heart beat. So hear are a few more pieces from the unravelled, sultry fall collection from Chrisopher Bailey.

Seeing as though we are in Winter, picking up this look is not hard. A trench coat should be a staple in anyones wardrobe, and can be picked up in most chain stores these days. The classic trench is a caramel-camel colour, double breasted and has the belt for the waist. Channel Audrey Hepburn in the last scenes in Breakfast at Tiffany's for a good idea of how it could be worn. But you don't have to go classic in colour, i have seen some beautiful crimson trench coats that look amazing paired with simple accessories and chic boots. But it doesn't end there, chuck your trench over a neutral coloured dress, put on some warm tights (black is always safe) and your favourite boots, wrap the belt tightly around your waist and hey-presto an outfit that will take you anywhere.

Viva la Frida

Just take a moment to draw in the beauty of Mexico's most awe inspiring painter Frida Kahlo. She had a life full of pain and produced some of the most amazing self portraits of the 20th Century. She is one of my idols. So now go and add an item of colour into your outfit for the day. I think a colourful scarf wrapped around my hair will be my choice. Do it, it will feel amazing.

To Tango with proportions

The art of Dance and the art of Fashion design go hand in hand. When a dancer creates a new dance there are certain elements needed in their 'being' to produce something new and inspiring. They need passion, dedication, understanding and an element of boundary pushing. This is the same for any fashion designer. To create something new they need to draw on the passion they have for fashion to get them through the long hours, which also requires a lot of dedication. Designers need an understanding of the world around them and how their clothes will fit in, and how they will fit the people who purchase them. And of course they need to push boundaries, because having a point of difference is what separates them from the rest. 

But ra ra ra, my point is that one of my favourite elements of fashion is when designers play with proportions, and in my view - the bigger the proportion - the happier i am. I'm not talking about walking around in sacks or ballooning garments, what i like is when designers take garments and exaggerate them but keep a structure and a form. I don't really know where i am going with this today, my brain is very cloudy. So here are some images, pictures always speak louder than words.

Gone but not forgotten.

It started in the morning on thursday last week, i was sitting in the physio waiting to be pummeled, and the receptionist confirmed what was thought to be just a rumor thus far. Michael Jackson was dead. The really bizarre thing was that i felt quite sad. This incredibly unusual man has finally found peace, in death. I spent the day reminiscing about how he had influenced my life, and i had to laugh a little. When i was younger (6 or 7) i had on going arguments with my friend Hayley about who was better, Michael Jackson or Elvis Presley. So it is not surprising if a mere peasant like myself reminisces the rest of the is doing the same.

So surprise surprise when i opened Australia's Grazia today there was a special fashion shoot tribute to the King of Pop himself. And, of course, it was fantastic.  

So here is a sneak peak, and yes i know, another tuxedo! But its such a great example of the modern day twist.

So if you would like to rock a MJ look, don your high power black jackets, anything sparkly or sequined, gloves are always a bonus and work that attitude.

Also I am completely convinced now, to not only wear a bow tie but to get a great big blunt fringe.
